What Are Angels?
These influential messengers of God are supernatural beings who surround God's throne in heaven. Their work in heaven is to praise and worship God. On earth they are God's couriers, bringing his word and assistance to people. The Old Testament term "angel of the LORD" was used as a way of describing how God sometimes came to people in human form.
Michael the Archangel- (who is like God?)
Michael is an Archangel with other angels under his authority. He is first mentioned by name as a prince who will support the prophet Daniel against the Persian king and protect the nation Israel. Michael is later mentioned in a dispute with the Devil over the body of Moses. The bible does not mention what this dispute was, but it does say that Michael left the final judgement of Satan up to God. Michael is also mentioned in the Book of Revelation as the angel leading other angels in a heavenly battle against Satan and his fallen angels. Michael wins this battle and Satan and his followers are expelled from heaven and cast to earth where they lead the whole world astray
The Angel Gabriel- (God is a warrior)
Gabriel makes three dramatic appearances in the bible: to Daniel, to interpret visions of the future for the distraught prophet in Babylon; to Zechariah, the aged priest on duty in the temple, to announce that his wife would give birth to John the Baptist; and to the young Mary, to announce that she would carry the Christ child. All three appearances are linked to the coming Messiah. Gabriel is also traditionally considered the angel who will trumpet Christ's return and who holds the key to the bottomless pit at the Last Judgement. Gabriel is linked with many Old Testament events (the finding of Joseph's brothers, the burial of Moses, the slaughter of the Assyrians) and is linked with the angels Michael, Raphael, and Uriel.
The Angel Raphael- (God heals or God is fearsome)
Raphael visited the city of Nineveh to assist two Hebrews living there in exile according to the extra-biblical book of Tobit. Tobit had been blinded in the course of performing a religious ceremony, and Sarah had been possessed by a demon that prompted her to kill each of her seven husbands on their wedding night before the marriage was consummated. Raphael assumed the name and bodily presence of Tobit's relative Azariah, and then instructed Tobit's son Tobias on how to cure both Tobit and Sarah. After Raphael's intervention, Tobias married Sarah, and Tobit recovered a large sum of money that had been lost.
The Angel Uriel- (God is light or flame of God)
Along with Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Uriel is an angel featured in the pseudepigraphal Book of Enoch. This extra-biblical Jewish writing says that Uriel issued warnings to Noah about the wicked state of human affairs and the coming flood. Speaking with Enoch, Uriel discussed fallen angels, false worship, the fate of wicked astronomy, and even the lunar calendar. In the Apocrypha (another set of extra-biblical writings from the time between testaments), Uriel is the angel who rebuked Esdras for questioning the ways of God. In later literature, Uriel is the angel of Paradise who interceded for Adam and Abel. He is also, reportedly, the angel who wrestled with Jacob at Peniel.

Isaiah 6:1-13
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the door posts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty. Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for. Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us? And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
He said, “Go and tell this people: “‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.” Then I said, “For how long, Lord? And he answered “Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged, until the Lord has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken. And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.”

Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.”
Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.”
Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood by.
The angel of the Lord gave this charge to Joshua: “This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘If you will walk in obedience to me and keep my requirements, then you will govern my house and have charge of my courts, and I will give you a place among these standing here.

Ezekiel 1:1-24
In my thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God On the fifth of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin— the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians. There the hand of the Lord was on him.
I looked, and I saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light. The center of the fire looked like glowing metal, and in the fire was what looked like four living creatures. In appearance their form was human, but each of them had four faces and four wings. Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze. Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. All four of them had faces and wings, and the wings of one touched the wings of another. Each one went straight ahead; they did not turn as they moved.
Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a human being, and on the right side each had the face of a lion, and on the left the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle. Such were their faces. They each had two wings spreading out upward, each wing touching that of the creature on either side; and each had two other wings covering its body. Each one went straight ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went. The appearance of the living creatures was like burning coals of fire or like torches. Fire moved back and forth among the creatures; it was bright, and lightning flashed out of it. The creatures sped back and forth like flashes of lightning. As I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces. This was the appearance and structure of the wheels: They sparkled like topaz, and all four looked alike. Each appeared to be made like a wheel intersecting a wheel. As they moved, they would go in any one of the four directions the creatures faced; the wheels did not change direction as the creatures went.Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around. When the living creatures moved, the wheels beside them moved; and when the living creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. When the creatures moved, they also moved; when the creatures stood still, they also stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose along with them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was what looked something like a vault, sparkling like crystal, and awesome. Under the vault their wings were stretched out one toward the other, and each had two wings covering its body. When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings, like the roar of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty, like the tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings.
