The Kaaba
Mecca:
It is the holiest site in Islam in which all Muslims direct their prayer
The Kaaba:
According to the Quran, the Kaaba was built by Abraham on the old foundations of the original Kaaba built by Adam in current day Mecca. It is roughly the shape of a cube and is made of granite. It stands on a marble base.
Dimensions:
Height=13.10 meters
Width=11.03 meters
Length=12.62 meters
Facts:
At the eastern corner of the Kaaba is the Rukn-al-Aswad or Black Stone. It is thought to be a meteorite remnant from years past. Many Muslims believe the stone fell from heaven during the time of Adam and Eve. It was once pure and dazzling white but has turned black because of the sins it's absorbed over many years.
Historians say it is most likely a meteorite and may have been worshipped during pre-Islamic Arabia. Some Muslims also believe that at the Last Judgement the stone will speak for those who kissed it.
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said concerning the stone: "By Allah, Allah will bring it forth on the Day of Resurrection, and it will have two eyes with which it will see and a tongue with which it will speak, and it will testify in favour of those who touched it in sincerity."
